Firstborn

So much promise when I was birthed
The first child, the ray of hope,the pride of the family
Praises and eulogies showered the day the sun shined on my face
Love and affection plentiful, the centre of attention

As I began to grow so did the expectations
My first words first step first birthday all observed with attention rapt
The gem of the family, the flag bearer for whom greatness was promised
Like waves upon waves, expectations upon expectations

Expectations that once brought me pride now weigh me down
I do not have the liberty of failure, winning all that matters
No excuse for stumbles, all obstacles I must surmount
Success the only option for a firstborn

Frustrated I lie in the darkness
Fighting the choking pain in my throat
"Firstborns don't cry they persevere" they said
So helplessly I cling to a breaking branch praying I don't fall into the abyss

बिखरी तमन्नाओं को वक्त के धागे में, बांध रखा है हौसले की गांठ से।
खुशबू निखर रही है हौले से, जिंदगी के इस हार से।
सब्र की मजबूती सहज लगती है, बेहिसाब ताकत जिसकी,
मिल्कीयत पर ही दिखती है।
तमन्नाओं के जोहरी तुम हो, ज़ेवर से पहले हुनर बनता है।
जो तुम कभी थक जाओ, अपनी तमन्नाओं के बोझ से।
तो ध्यान रखना के जोहरी ज़ेवर को, अपने फन से तराशता है,

Ups and Downs

Life begats obnoxious mysteries
which births ruffled emotions.
In the company of fulfillment
is an inexplicable stound of happiness.
Like a downpour of rain
tranquility is induced into the soul
after years of futile chase of dreams.

The infusion of life's downs
renders one inept like a cripple
oscillating in his dark world
wearing a coat of forlorn and pity
tied to the strings of a conundrum
fagged from compelling thoughts of a future
encumbered with depression and despair.

A basket of surprises life proposes
In the embrace of unpredictable fangs of mayhem
we are submerged striving for sanity
gnashing teeths in excruciating loads of burden
struggling, striving,contending and racing
with our heads held high in the air
and the little honour left in us
we hurry across the lines
clamoring for a revival back to sanity
after a moment of ineffable crisis.

Our Parents

It's rare for parents to apologize to us. And they will never say, "I love you". They are too embarrassed to express their feelings. Hesitation

The hand that used to be automatically offered was retracted on the start of the winter because the intention had not been made obvious. He took one step forward & you took one step backward. Everytime you're early by a step, she's late by one. We missed the prime time to give each other our hands & pass on warmth.
