Based on a play I read once in my Hindi class.��
School on the 1st
The new session had just started
Everyone was quite excited.
The teacher arrived in class
Arms loaded with books and a new hall pass.
But there was something quite peculiar
Which to the teacher was about to appear.
She called out for a lesson on Geography
And the students pulled out History!
She stared at them in wonder
But then decided to forgive the blunder.
Putting Geography away
She called for Biology, but again the students went astray!
She grew a little angry
And putting away all history, biology, geography, chemistry, psychology and sociology,
Brought forward a ruler
''What has happened to the students?'' She never ceased to wonder.
''They're so well behaved as a general rule
What has happened? Don't they know it's school?''
She called out to a girl named Trisha
To come out and mark India
On the big world map hung on the wall
But! Trisha didn't touch India at all!
The poor teacher was confused beyond measure
She decided to give theory a leisure
And brought up language (English, if we're being accurate)
And asked a question to intelligent young Kate.
But! Rather than outlining Shakespeare
She went on to talk about an obscure seeming character called Pierre!
The teacher had never heard of him
And she wondered what Kate was reading
(Also, Kate was grinning.)
She sighed and gave lectures a rest
She decided to set the class to a test.
But none of them seemed to have pens or paper
The poor teacher was at the height of her despair!
She sat holding her head
Heavy felt the ruler her hand held
And then there was a simultaneous cry
To make out the tumult, she did try!
"April Fools Day!" everyone seemed to be yelling
And then she figured out the constant grinning!
We must give credit to her here
She forgot her despair
And smiled at the prank
True and frank!
