She always considered herself a piece of coal
That was dense, dirty and dark
Dirty enough to soil another’s soul
No matter where she went, she felt she left a filthy mark
An opaque film of desperation on her led to
Destitution that made her believe
Her unworthiness so much that she felt it best
To harm and hurt herself enough to bleed
This rage of vengeance coupled with the
Pressures of life caused her to be buried
Like coal deep within the confines of the earth
Leaving her restless and feeling harried
The winds raged and seas swelled
Nature left nothing undone or unsaid
She slowly learnt to bear the wrath of life
While doubt clouded the thoughts in her head
She weathered seasons and pains over the years
The strain caused the coal in her to harden
Into a gleaming, glittering, shining jewel
Capable of bearing its own burdens
Never one to succumb and give into
The tricks life came to play on her
She went on to transform into a diamond
With her own magnetic lure
With an unbreakable soul she stood tall
When all around her slowly crumbled and fell
Beating odds that would frighten brave men
Her doubts and apprehensions she came to quell
People would get blinded by her sparkle
Never realising how it had come to be
In the process of fighting life’s odds she learnt
How to be independent and be free
Each of us has a journey to go through
Without which we remain incomplete
Looking back at our pasts then feels
A story of struggle that is bittersweet
