    Munna Bhai not M.B.B.S

    He's a jolly good fellow
Who sleeps with half closed eyes
    His many qualities to elaborate
L'il onerous for me to summarise

So far my memory can engage
Forever, since his pre teen age
Be it to help or to join for fun
When it's about his dear ones
What I've seen and of situations I haven't misread
He always acts by his heart and not by his head

He's never been a bookworm or any studious
He's mentally alert and always been industrious
A quality that maa knew of him but desired more
To study well, become a doctor and settle offshore

It's wasn't that he was dull in studies or incompetent
But, his report card would cause maa disappointment
Maa - Writing for exams for me is a very boring task
Instead of written answers, why don't they orally ask ?
Said she one day - I thought, to you the fulfillment of my dream I would someday solicit
To take me to London, for the queen's palace is one place, in my lifetime I wish to visit.

Her disappointment never dampened his spirits
He remembered her dream for what's worth it
    As a schoolboy, occassionally he would ask her for a penny or two;
For samosas, movies or any petty indulgence
Sometimes she would give, sometimes she would refuse -
"You trouble me a lot, I won't spare you any pittance".

"You break my heart for 2 pennies, ah!
"Why hold on to petty pennies maa ?
To get those pennies he would then play his master stroke -
Maa, today, pennies I may have none
But, one day, I'll take you to London. My dear maa ! Just trust this bloke."

Everytime, all his herculean efforts for a penny or two, and witty humour was worthwhile
Sometimes they loosened her purse strings, but everytime his words made her smile.

He was a surprise addition in the business for his dad
A spirited son, whose ideas and inputs made him glad
Together they could have done so much more
But, recession and destiny played a spoil-sport
Though, in material luxury he may not swim
But, his dad's soul is surely proud of him

So much can be said of him
    Some awesome, some funny
    Very human in his fault
    A person worth his salt
    Quick to anger when hurt
    His personality-extrovert
A good son, quite a worth
    One who matters on earth

    He's a jolly good fellow
Who sleeps with half closed eyes
    His many qualities to elaborate
L'il onerous for me to summarise

I speak here not of any random guy
This person I know is my munna bhai
I'm neither the best sister to that end
Nor am I a poetess renowned and great
But, just before the year 2021 is spent
For my brother, a few lines I wish to dedicate.

Fun facts - His big eyes really don't close fully when he sleeps. I was always amused by it. And, he had this weird habit of chewing his cheeks from inside. I used to tell him - Band karo gaal chabana nahi to ek din gaalon mein ched ho jayenge.

P.S. Seminary hills was the place where we HAD our house. It is a mini Jungle in the city. It also has a Christian and a Parsi CEMETERY. Those days the hill's street lights were rarely lit at night. My brother often got late at the office during audits and had to travel through the hills from main city to reach our home on the hills. The hill also has many government colonies as well as the air force colony. But, at night it used to get very dark and lonely especially the road that my brother had to take. With tall teakwood trees and many other trees the moonlight barely reached the hill road. Imagine new moon night. If one turned back they would see only black. It was always better to have the vehicle headlights in working condition.

Now that area has developed a lot and has traffic late till night as well the street lights are rarely off at night.

    My Big B

Born as the priceless bundle of joy
To my parents was my eldest bhai

Enjoying the bliss of parental love
Un-shared; no sibling below n above
    Life was quite wonderful enough
Until, devil decided to play tough

Down came two siblings to enjoin him
Ending abruptly Big B's princely stint
While he was struggling to figure his new plight
The jolly younger prince stole quite his light

He had to do something to win back his light
    Without having a duel or a physical fight;
So, after exams he used to fervently pray
Dear god ! Please let my two siblings fail

If only he could know that he was fine
He didn't need to race to win his shine
He was-is awesome in numerous ways
People didn't know or notice, to praise

    For, among us siblings three
He was-is the best in artistry
Be it drawing, painting or the sand art
Monopoly, cards, chess or paper craft
He excelled over his siblings in many ways
Wasn't he the one who taught them art and games ?

He did get annoyed with people and things, for or no reason
Cause he was just a kid, though the first in our family's season
(If our family is considered a tele serial, we 2 siblings appear one after the other in the 2nd and 3rd seasons)
When pranked upon, he was never revengeful
Coz he had a forgiving heart, soft like wool

A little boy who was once easily frightened n timid
Crossed many a nights, the seminary hills unlit
Behind his silent, shy, composed and meek demeanor
Hides an ambitious, well read and an aware dreamer
Unknown to any, his personality had a side
Very beautiful; and we were taken by surprise -

On being engaged he was advised by some well meaning cousins
To connect, he could start by sending his fiancee a card or a present
He never was a casanova, so this novice fiance
Struggled to choose a card and impress his bae

Should he wait or not for her birthday or some special event ?
The confused romantic bought twelve cards to send concurrent

This act was very cute, though he lacked in the craft
But, that day on learning this, we all had a good laugh
He blushed trying to explain his predicament
No explanation was required, dear gentleman !

Now life is so different and full of cares
Everyone is busy handling their own affairs
Lost in the abyss is our carefree childhood
I would turn back time; I truly wish I could
    Then dear Big B,
I would speak often of the things I admire in you
Demand more of you, annoy you and also tickle you

    But, turning back the time
    I would start with -
Born as the priceless bundle of joy
To my parents was my eldest bhai

Enjoying the bliss of parental love
Un-shared; no sibling below n above
    Life was quite wonderful enough
UNTIL, DEVIL DECIDED TO PLAY TOUGH

    7 day journal

I woke up with a scowl
Knowingly since it was a Monday
And spent the day at work and
    The eve cooking pasta flambé
I tucked a napkin under my chin
And ate my dinner alone on a tray

The sun was brighter the next day
    Now that Tuesday was here
A lousy day at work resulted in me
Being mildly excited about the pan sear
Chicken breast I made to lift my spirits
While keeping my hairy little dog near

I woke up earlier than usual
Perkier than most days on Wednesday
    Spent the morning working happily
And then came home to carefully weigh
Each ingredient for a chocolate cake
That I iced in sleepy shades of grey

Mid week laziness hit me hard
    On Thursday this week
So I decided to let the ingredients marinate
For making yummy kebabs on seekh
The day at work was better because I knew
I’d come home and make a dinner sleek

Thank god it was finally Friday
I practically hopped and skipped to work
I was calm and collected while working
    And not going completely berserk
    I decided on making Fischbrötchen
The humble fish roll snack from Hamburg

The sun was streaming in through my window
By the time on Saturday I awoke
Spent the day cleaning and doing puzzles
And enjoyed several cans of coke
I made myself tasty tacos using
    The beans I’d previously soaked

My favourite day of the week was here
Sunday arrived to put a smile on my face
I spent time cleaning the kitchen after spending
The morning at church saying grace
I treated myself to a lasagna and happily sighed
While putting back the washed plates

Before I knew it the week was done
And tomorrow it would be back to business again
I’m happy to be ending this weeks report today
After having cut veggies in juliennes
I will make the next week better at work
Even if it takes chinese food to reach zen
