Recently, I started reading and doing the exercises in a book called The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Within the book, Julia suggests doing a series of "morning pages", 3 pages of nonsense writting that is used to unburden yourself from all your fears, wishes, anxieties, dreads, etc. I partook in this excercise for the first time today after waking up.
To my surprise, after I had written my 3 pages (I actually wrote 2 and 1/2), I got an idea for a scene for the novel I've been trying to complete since 2009 called All In Good Time. I've had the hardest case of writers block when it comes to working on the novel. A lot of that stems from fear of not being good enough, it's all been said and done before, and sometimes the A.D.D. of the creative mind.
I am grateful to say that the process from Julia's book is already working. I wrote a very small section of the scene that was in my mind for forever. I didn't complete the scene and it is rough as hell, but I'm proud of what I wrote. It's been soooo long and it feels good to actually make a little bit of progress. So, I am sharing a snippet of that scene here with you all in it's unedited and unfinished glory. With some luck and a consistent routine, maybe I will actually be able to publish this book by the end of the year. :)
