Of a Day in the Life

Each day is a new chapter
In the hefty tome of our lives
Even a small piece of news
    Can upset the schemes
    Perfected over years

    Like the roof of
    A centuries old house
    That caves in one day
    Having witnessed years of
    Joys and fortitudes

    Causing a maelstrom
    Of dust and debris
    To settle over all things
    Old and New
    And invoke disbelief

    The dust settles
    But the walls stand tall
    As silent proofs
    Of the layers of history
    Visible on their visage

And then a beam of sunlight
    Kisses the floor
    That hasn't seen the sky
For as long as it can remember
The trees and sky beckon above

Life like the centuries old house
    Finds a reason
To hold on a little longer
    Because the ray of light
Had found its way through the cracks

    Sugar free

    Like a sugar free lives
    Sweetened by a sweetener
    Artificial In nature
With after taste of bitterness lingering beside
Locking our smiles we spend our days
    Complaining bickering wailing everyday
Time isn’t much we have at bay
    But we are alas humans
We are just here to complain !!

Distance means so little, when life means so much...

    And now we know,
    there is a beauty
    In stillness.

//so as I was writing this for Carolyn's thoughtful challenge...I realized that the city I so desperately wish to see someday one-day, stands today amidst a disaster of an unknown form...not burning down but still withering within... How I pray it stands up still and my dreams turn real and I step onto its inviting bosom. Meanwhile you asked what my dream destination was...so the answer is here//

I savour the company of books
Relish the solitude of my home
But if I am getting a ticket to anywhere
I will secretly wish it to be Rome.
Going there has been my dream
Ever since I read about it once
    Appreciating its colossal structures
As also the numerous petite ones.
I don't wish to visit Rome
    Merely for its mesmerising architecture
    The city appeals to me
Because of its welcoming vibrant culture.
The article said Rome had very
    Independent and happy women
    That it breathed in liberty
And freedom of thought- a given.
    Further it houses
    My most favourite writer
    Jhumpa Lahiri lives there
So there can't be reason any brighter.
    I imagine myself roaming freely
On the plentiful passionate piazzas of my dream city
In a dress of tasteful crimson
Clicking pictures otherwise won't it be a pity!
My memoirs of this place will be souvenirs
Of this abode of art and ancient wisdom
    From whose womb were born
Ideas of equality, fraternity and freedom.
I would be taking along my mother
A worthy present for her unequivocal devotion
Bless the day when this dream of mine lunges into motion!

//we are looking up and down at the same time//

Seems like life's come to a standstill
And suddenly I am not numb
To the zillions of things that happen
    Inside me.
With all the cares I caress
    Wobbling on their toes
The future now an indistinct fuzz
It's indeed a colossal blow to my elaborate plans.
I feel a burden is off
    My feeble shoulders
Now I stopped running after the elusive success
    Everyone seeks for me, finally.
I sit now with my true self
In one hand holding the mirror's soul.
    With time on my palms
Yesterday I talked to my past
    It's over now
Faced few fears that had been
Shoved behind unworn clothes in my closet
    It's strange but soothingly so
We won't be the same after it's over.

Your self-isolation is the best medicine
