While ice kollas from vendors was a bliss
When playing together in ground
After school time was a real fun
When the tension load of books was less
When watching movies in theatres was an excitement
When Marina beach was free of plastics
When selfie was not a trendsetter
While one group photo has so much to tell
When internet was just a booming love
When newspaper was valued so high
When letters even though one ,
would always be treasured
I envy those times even if technology
Wasn't improved people had more happiness
I wish I was there to see!!!!!

City- I hate that I love you
What am I doing in the mess? I'm not the person who would give into the seductive city's temptation. Those neon lights and skyscrapers scare me out of my wits. This earthen soul inside cowers under the roars of buses and lorries. The smoke and the aggression of their gears.
I look out for something home. Something I could cling onto. Place my heart safely in and guard it from the metro millennials.
But all I could see are gaudily coloured flats that twist and turn in infinite numbers, the winking traffic signal, crowded shops with plastic strewn all over, slush of the recent rain, mounds of garbage here and there.
If I were the city, I'm sure I would've choked and puked and perished sooner.
A threat of a terrible headache loomed over me that sunny afternoon I sat in the dusty bus. I tried hard to think of something else. About home. About Amma's food. About the comfort of my bed. Nothing helped.
Without my notice, the bus took off to the flyover. The elevation made me cringe, my nausea more triggered. I gasped for breath, reached out to the window. By the time, the bus was traversing on the highest level of the flyover.
My pupils dilated. The vision I saw of the same seductive city became clear. A panorama of the lamposts in dutiful order, the crisscrossing bridges and automobiles of audacious shades hit me hard. Besides these metal giants, I also beheld those scrambling hard from the margins of the city.
The sweet candy hawker was busy in conjuring his magic. The pookara akka's (florist sister) meticulous hands growing garlands from discrete flowers.
A ponch belly Muslim grandpa taking a good nap in his mobile cobbling shop. Photos of Kali and Meenakshi lined up in the array of palmist aunties on the platforms, ready to foresee other's futures. A 'kaiyendhi' bhavan with its aroma of hot idlis and sambar, enticing customers.
It changed me, these myriad mitochondrias of the city. After all, amidst the concrete mess, there's some canopy of hope and calm.
*Kali and Meenakshi are incarnations of mother goddess in Hindu mythology
*Kaiyendhi bhavan - mobile tiffin shops.
Kaiyendhi literally translates to holding with hands. (Tamil)
Basically a Chennai ponnu( a girl) & her love-hate relationship with her city
