    Lockdown diaries

    An another lockdown. But this time, a year after things are worst than ever. Whole world is suffering because of a deadly virus. Our regular life schedules have changes drastically too. There is no trying of new recipes and posting in your new YouTube channel, Dalgona coffee is no more trending. No cheering up, No crowds, There is no tendency to text your ex again. Nobody is refreshing their heart breaks. We are not in a situation to talk hours to our childhood friend again. We are all depended on the technology for anything and everything. Online classes, online shopping, online food. It's been a year since our home became our school, office, shopping mall and the entire world we see out there. Quarantine no longer sounds like a vacation.  Fresh air is now a luxury.  


    Life in this pandemic is extremely worst. Everything in this atmosphere feels tragic with the presence of a dreadful virus. We are fighting and praying in distance for all our loved ones and for the entire world. Grateful to all the doctors, nurses and medical staffs for giving us this hope to survive. It's really heartbreaking to isolate ourselves from our dear ones when we mentally need them the most. We all are eagerly waiting for this pandemic to be over, to throw away the mask, to hug each other tightly.

    The wierd society rules.
    We all know that this society is damn wierd. They have their own rules which makes no sense in this world. One such rule is to act matured. Without no proper guidance we are supposed to follow these maturity rituals too.
    "Don't cry in public" " Don't touch this" "Don't say that" " Don't do that " Whose is creating all the do's and dont's? Childhood is a beautiful part of one's life. But parents are forcing them to act normal. Aren't they kids? Is this the time to be enjoy? Why is this parents holding them back? .
    People are supposed to be what they what or what they wish to be. But what really happens is that parents are imposing their wishes to their children just to please the society. Their son who is interested in wildlife photography is supposed to join IIT. Yes definitely it makes no sense. But compelling them to earn a government job and make settle at a very young age is of primary importance. And whatever the passion their son has is not their concern. Their daughter is supposed to be married and have babies at the age of 25,but she is not allowed to go out of the house after 6p.m.
    Society have a prepared set of questions which they keep on asking. " did your son got a job?" " government job or abroad? "
    "isn't time to get your daughter married?" "do she have children? " and this cycle goes on repeating. and a lots more nonsense questions.
    This is the 21st century but still we need not only our parents permission but also the neigbours, cousin's , relative's , society's and a long list of people's. Even though we can't tolerate all these, there is one thing we need to admit. They are the perfect CCTV and the fastest news channels.
    There are many with shattered dreams and unaccomplished passions between us only because they were anxious about the society. Dancer becames a doctor. Musician becames an engineer. and so many reaching no where carrying regrets.
    No man was ever and never gonna be perfect to the society. Be what your mind wish for. Achieve your passion. Be who you are!

    Everything in this world has its own misconception or there exists something of a myth related to it. Because different people have different perspectives and they see things differently too.. Happiness is one such misconception we have perceived. What for you is your happiness? Buying your own house, owning a Benz car, joining the best college, going abroad, marrying your soul mate, leading a luxurious life. ? definitely they are our happiness. But they are not the only happiness. These are the happiness that society has imposed on us and may or may not be the happiness of an individual. Our life is to explore, love and find our true happiness.
    These lockdown days have made me realise many important realities of our life. There were days I got stuck in my past and finally was able to collect myself from those gone days. Giving my key of happiness to somebody was the major mistake I have done. Our key of happiness lies in ourselves only. We are the ones to find and discover them.
    Happiness is in the little things, it's in the beauty of this moment that will cherish forever. It's not in the future nor in the past. A text message from your childhood friend, drinking a hot cup of tea in the rain, seeing your little brother smiling, a small act of kindness is the real happiness. And finally, being human is the happiness.

    Someday I'll see you sitting in a café drinking a cup of coffee as the winter's sun casts a spotlight on you.  A happenstance that causes the ghost of our past to re-enter, even if it is for a brief moment. Your hair tied in a bun as you clutch a pencil, deep in thought working away at your new book. I see you're still wearing that gold locket I gave you last Christmas, bringing a smile to my face. You look so peaceful after such a long time that I almost do not want to come and talk to you - believe me it takes a strength I never knew I had. You're wearing that white sweater again, remember the one you swore off wearing because you thought we fight every time you wear it; like it would jinx our happiness! Do you still believe in those theories? Maybe you realized that we didn't need anything to jinx us, maybe we were enough. We were good together but no, I couldn't be the perfect piece to solving your puzzle. That has to be someone else. I wonder if you're here with someone or are you taking some time to yourself. You take a sip or two of that coffee - a Cafe latte with hazelnut syrup - your favorite! I loved kissing you, tasting the coffee, taking in the aroma that became my favorite fragrance, something that I carried with me everyday I went to work. Sometimes I wonder what went wrong with you and me! Sometimes I wonder if time just made us grow apart! Other times I wonder if there will ever come a time when our paths will cross again and we learn how to fill the voids in each other's lives completely. I wish I was sitting there with you, holding your hand, talking about our days, joking and laughing. Yet, alas, all good things come to an end. I just hope the waiter delivers my note to you that I swear to write the day I see you in the café like this. I already know what I'll say -

    "You looked beautiful today, a ravishing treat for my eyes like always. Consider this note another clue to who I am, one of many that I have given you, some of which you hold so close to you. One day I will reveal myself to you for in my dreams we already make a beautiful story albeit tragic. Till then I live with your images in my mind...

And when she reads today's note, she shudders, a cold feeling consuming her knowing that he was there watching her so closely in the café. Frenzied, she leaves the café in panic to run away, to escape this stranger in her life, uncalled, uninvited unseen... a mere figment of her imagination or is it someone else entirely?

    BESIDE ME

    I was standing on the rooftop,
    Looking at the sunset and pink sky,
    It doesn't seem beautiful to me anymore.
    Suddenly, I felt someone,
    Standing there by my side.
    It was my conscience,
    Asking me to not to give up.
    But I was tired,
    Tired of all these daily chores and unending problems.
    I no more enjoyed the things I used to love,
    Neither my favourite food, songs,
    Nor hanging out with my friends.
    Was dealing with anxiety and depression from a long time,
    I was fed up of anti-depression pills
    And many more medicines.
    I didn't wanted such life
    That's running only with the help of medicines.
    I tried a lot,
    To be happy like I used be before,
    But then, I decided to give up
    On everything and everyone.
    Relationships were getting worst day by day,
    There was left no reason for me to stay.
    I decided to give up on my life,
    Because life's nothing without our loved ones.
    But, my conscience stopped me,
    And told me that,
    You can't taste rainbows,
    Until you dare to cross the storms.
    I took a step back from the boundary of the roof,
    And asked myself,
    Am I this weak to give up on my life,
    Only because of some mere problems?
    I gathered my courage back,
    To fight back from the problems once again.
    I picked my broken pieces,
    And ran to my parents and my loved ones.
    I apologised for everything I did
    And all the harsh words I said in frustration.
    And now, my family and my loved ones are beside me,
    Helping me to fight back,
    And win the battles of life.

    Rain pattered against her windows that Sunday evening. She was sitting on her bed, writing her column, pencil in her mouth, hair tied in a bun, glasses perched on her nose. But as those drops hit the glass of the windows, she couldn't help herself. She had to go...

    There were few things in life that brought her joy now, ever since she was locked in the cage. Pushing her things away haphazardly, focusing just on the sound, she ran to open the gates leading to the balcony. Barefoot, her skirt swishing as she ran, as though she was breathing air after a long time. She ran to open the doors, freedom from the monotony. Her feet splashing the rainwater, feeling the touch as if for the first time.

    She stood there for a while, drenching herself, inhaling the scent - petrichor, feeling the drops fall on her face. Arms wide open, she hugged the clouds and their tears, as much as she could gather. And then she smiled the most beautiful smile in a long time.

    There it was, the freedom, the happiness. Like the rainfall had unmoored her and she had just begun wandering and exploring, setting a sailor's sail. There was a lot left to be understood before the boat was anchored again.

    And so I danced...

    I went inside and poured a cup of hot tea and got my book - there was no better time to read than when the skies rained - escaping the reality and getting lost, unmoored, unanchored, unhinged.
