Suspended sentiments
Its a cold morning, but the forecast promises a sunny day...I can see a thin layer of fog surrounding the vicinity and moody skies, reflecting my gloom better than this unused mirror in my bedroom,accumulating dirt, as I still lie in the bed stealing a few more minutes before the day consumes me.
In this geography, you have a certain threshold beyond which you cannot delay marriage- you shall be frowned upon, your parents will start panicking as if you are dead, unfamiliar people shall suddenly start to intervene into your private life that you have tried to guard so well. They are not wrong. I say "this geography ", because nothing new happens here, not to most people anyways. Age,certainly is a deteriorating factor and their worries are justified. What is not justified is the segregation of various milestones of your life as if they are independent of each other, whilst in reality, one aspect of your life merge silently and swiftly into the next that from a vantage point they will seem indistinguishable from one another. When you are in school or college, many parents may freak out if they know that you are in a relationship, for it may affect your studies. Valid reason. Supposing, you remain single, even scared to love, gradually developing a taste for isolation. Loneliness, though adverse, is familiar and after a certain age you're more drawn towards familar things. And the voices inside my head, are more familiar than the loving voice of another human being.
Marriage has always been a strange dilemma. I do believe in love at first sight, and I am not that much of a unpractical,bollywood influenced romantic who believes that it can happen only once. Ofcourse, it may occur multiple times. Its the same concoct of looks, preferably a good sense of humour, a bit good taste in music...and maybe a certain vulnerability. And then there's familiarity, someone whom you have known for a while, that eases the nerves a bit. And even then there are plethora of sub-factors like religion, language, caste..getting friend-zoned! You don't really have much of a choice. But when you have been burned and battered before, you tend to develop a protective shield and they tend to believe that you are unnecessarily choosy. Frankly,I don't even blame them...I am just too tired of killing myself endlessly to please others.
I can see a little bit of sunshine, partly veiled by my window curtains, that I so rarely lift to let the light in. The sounds of the day have started to get more prominent in the world outside my isolation. I guess, I shall have to start my preparations to be a part of another day of this organized chaos... and even though I am a shitty cook, I can make some good tea.

The rose petals in my journal have dried into shades of brown and your photographs in my drawers haven't tasted air for years now. I also put away the gifts in a cardboard box, along with the greeting cards and letters.
I don't know why I am still keeping them? All I know is I couldn't muster the courage to destroy them. I cannot repudiate the connection I feel with them. It feels like I am locking them, like I locked my feelings for you. And waiting for them to disappear oneday, like I wish for my feelings too.
