मगर उनतक मेरा एक तार न पहुंचा,
न जाने कितना दूर निकल गए वो
कि उनतक मेरा ऐतवार न पहुंचा,
समझ नहीं आ रहा कि गुमनाम हम हैं या वो हैं गुमसुदा,
न जाने कौनसी मंजिल पर हैं वो
जहां पर मेरा प्यार ना पहुंचा...!!!

Noxious, liquid chemicals.
It bubbles
and bursts
inside my mouth,
drools dumbly down my lips.
Sticks to my gums
when I try to speak,
and I become
a mush-mouthed
idiot.
It drips
all over everything,
staining fabric
and canvas
and paper
and wool
and wood. Nothing is safe
from the smell that expands
and burrows into the walls
like decades
of secondhand smoke,
steeping the air
with constant mouthfuls
of toxins impossible
to purge.
A life held hostage
by the choking back of clarity,
where tar
turns to morphine
when it slips past the tonsils.
My truths, I hid from me,
eclipsed instead by the safety
of being
a disconnected
entity.
But the suffering
that comes
with that kind of forgery
left me sick
with black lung
and a truth that is not
my own.
Now every night I cough and retch
and pull out of my mouth
pockets of smoke
and grease,
and the sour stench
of decay
rises up, burning my
strained and sodden eyes.
I gag
and howl
and thrash
for hours,
spewing up gallons
of caustic gas
while fevered, angry tar
blankets my skull
with unbearable heat
and sets every brain cell
on fire.
But in the end, when dawn breaks,
when there is no more
to expel
and the waves of flame
finally retreat,
I sit in the muted aftermath
and fingerpaint wistfully
with what's been spilled,
because the mess
can also be
the medicine.
The pools
of oil and pitch
on my floor;
reminders
of all
the fallacies I will
never swallow again.
The agony,
the open wounds, the ugliness
all come
before the beauty,
the sacrifice
making space
for healing,
and then growth.
Every night I cough and retch.
There can be no
sugarcoated tone of voice
when I
discuss my truth,
no holding back for sweetness
or suppressing
for convenience.
How can you
sugarcoat
that which you
die every night defending,
that which refuses
to be anything
but a searing declaration
of volition,
an acceptance of sovereignty
over the self?
Once it is awakened,
it can be bolstered
forever.
Why would you
let others
snuff that power
out of you?
What right
do they have
to even try?"
