Scientific name being Bauhinia racemosa, in South India, the plant is traditionally known as idithangi, aaththi maram, and thathagi. It is also called Banraj in Bengali, Kachnal in Hindi, Aapta in Kannada, Kosundra in Punjabi, Arampaali in Malayalam, Asundro in Gujrati, Sona in Marathi, Yugmapatra in Sanskrit, Arechettu in Telugu, and Kachnaar in Unani around various parts of India.
It can grow under very difficult climatic environments with drooping branches.
It is commonly used as a medicine, ornamental plant, fence plant, and fodder for livestock & a landfill tree to avoid soil erosion of the forest.
The matured leaves of B. racemosa are used for making Beedi (Indian cigarettes), whereas the young leaves are used as greens (side dish) by the Tamilians (Tamil Nadu, India). The bark and leaves of B. racemosa are sweetish and acrid, used as a refrigerant, astringent, in the treatment of headache, fever, skin diseases, blood diseases, dysentery, and diarrhea. A decoction of the bark is recommended as a useful wash for ulcers. In ayurveda, the plant is commonly used for the treatment of initial stage of cancer.

खेद कहां उनको संघर्षों का , मानव रूप लिए आभारी खुद को कहते, पग पग संग उनके जब लक्ष्मण से अनुज, सिया सी अर्धांगिनी है।
राज महल में पले बढ़े जो, राज सुख त्याग वन में कुटी सजाते है।
अधर्म, असत्य के विनाश की सीख की खातिर आम मनु बन जाते है।
सदियों से शापित जो राह निहारे उनकी,
पग प्रथ्वी पर रखते ही मुक्ति मार्ग के द्वार उन सबके खुलते जाते है।
कितने ही रुके शुभ कार्य ही कितनो की प्यासी आंखे,
दर्शन मात्र से जिनके नैया सबकी पार लगाते जाते है।
घानिष्टता सुग्रीव संग बढ़ा बालीवध कर घनिष्ट मित्रता निभाते है।
वाणी में हर पल शालीनता, कोमलता लिए धैर्य की शिष्टता अपनाते है।
चौदह बरस वन वास को जाने कितने ही विपदाएं नित नवेली आईं है।
भेष बदल अनिष्ट मंसा लिए जाने ही कितने दानव ने जां गावाई है।
वचन मातृ आज्ञा के बरसों वनवास का,
पुत्र वियोग में निधन पिता के पश्चाताप का,
कितनी ही विपदाएं झेली धैर्य से मनुज रूप धर,
सीता हरण किए रावण के अत्याचार का
भारी दानव दल देख,बाहुबल देख ,फिर भी जो युद्ध से ना घबाराए,
राजनीति , युद्धनीति को अपना कर जो वीरों की भांति बाण चलाए।
कर संहार जो सब दानव दल का, फिर किए उद्धार रण भूमि स्थल का।
हुई सिया जी दानव दल से मुक्त जब,नवजीवन गूंजा जैसे नभ जल का।
रामावतार लिए कितने ही अनगिनत मनुज किरदार किए,
अग्रज, स्वामी, भाई, मित्र, पुत्र की कहो या शिष्य,
आदर्श रूपी मानव शरीर ले दिखलाए धर्म मार्ग पथ कांटों से जो भरे,
जिनका पालन कर, जिनके पदचिन्हों पर सारा संसार चले।

उत्सव में हुआ हाहाकार ,
रावण के दहन में
क्या हुआ नियति का वार ?
या कलयुग के रामों से कोई भूल हुई ?
रेल से कटे सैकड़ों ,
विनती को जुड़ी हाथेँ
कुचलकर धूल हुईं ।
भेड़-बकरियों की तरह लोग कट गए,
सर अलग हुआ,धड़ भी हिस्सों में बट गए।
नेताओं के दौरों से अब कौन जीवित होगा,
जिसका पुत्र हो चला गया
वो क्या मुआवज़े से पुलकित होगा।
आयोग का यूँ तो गठन होगा,
जाँच होगी,अफसरों का भ्रमण होगा |
पता चलेगा कोई नहीं दोषी है
अंत में बचना सिर्फ अँधेरा,मातम और बेहोशी है।
दो दिन के बात है
फिर लोग सब भूल जाएंगे,
वहीँ फिर पटरियों के सामने रावण जलाएंगे,
जलता रावण हमारी मूर्खता पर फिर हँसेगा
लोग पटरियों रहेंगे
और फिर एक बार लोग
हिस्सों में बट जायेंगे ।

विजयादशमी तो ठीक है
पर दहन कुंड कुछ ख़ाली है,
चीर हरण करने वाले की,
हम ही कर रहे रखवाली हैं।
रावण निश्चय ही कपटी था
अधमी था, अभिमानी था।
पर हे मित्र,
मेरी व्यथा सुनो,
मेरी व्यथा सुनो, मेरी कथा सुनो,
सीता को उसने छू न लिया,
पतिव्रत को उसके भंग न किया,
अग्नि-परीक्षा से हो निकली,
अश्रु अपमान के सह निकली,
रावण से पीछा छूट गया,
दुःख से संबंध टूट गया।
पर आज समय कुछ और है,
चीर-हरण का ज़ोर है।
रावण का दहन तो ठीक है,
पर दुश्शासन निर्भीक है।
राजसभा में किया जो द्वापर में,
गली-गली कर रहा कलयुग में।
दुश्शासन आज खुला घूम रहा,
तुमको और मुझको घूर रहा ।
विजयादशमी तो ठीक है
पर दहन कुंड कुछ ख़ाली है,
चीर हरण करने वाले की,
हम ही कर रहे रखवाली हैं।

हे पुरुषोत्तम इस युग में मुझको राम नहीं रावण बन मिलना
दस सिर भले होंगे पास तुम्हारे
पर होगा तुम्हारा बस एक चेहरा
प्यार का हो या क्रोध का हो
जो होगा सबके समक्ष होगा
भले छल कर ले जाओगे मुझको
पर सम्मान मेरा ना तुम कभी छलना
मेरी ' ना ' को स्वीकार करने की क्षमता भी होगी पास तुम्हारी
अपने पराक्रम को दिखला कर पाने की कोशिश होगी तुम्हारी
मुझ पर अपना बल प्रयोग करके
मेरी ' ना ' को ' शायद हां ' ना तुम समझोगे
"चलता है इतना तो" कहकर आंखें ना अपनी सेकोंगे
भद्दी टिप्पणियां ही कसकर ना अपनी जिव्हा तृप्त करोगे
मेरे लिए लड़ोगे तुम
पर मुझसे ना तुम कभी लड़ोगे
मै नहीं कहती तुम उत्तम थे
मै नहीं कहती तुम सज्जन थे
पर मेरे सभ्य समाज के लोगों के
आगे रावण कई गुना सभ्य तुम थे
