Sometimes people create a storm within you that never seems to end

    It's wild, it's cold, it's howling

And yet there you are making aerogami and sending them for a flight

Believing it will take you somewhere near those quiet calm stars

All you wanted was to be kind

    sigh! Nevermind.

Adrian opened his eyes. The deep lines of stress on his forehead and his dark circles, evident enough to make anyone concerned.
"The final advice I would give you, is to re-think every moment. From Singapore to Amazon. Try to remember everything, all that you can. All."
Adrian's brain was trying to process every minute detail possible. From meeting Lucia, till her death.

    'Met her, danced.
Dated her for two long years.
    Convincing her Dad, denied.
    Teziaah.
    Tried to convince again, denied.
    Married.
    Singapore.
    Vacation.
    Alone.'

"Can't remember more than this", Adrian handed over the A4 sheet to Alex.
"This vacation thing. This vacation thing is troubling me. Vacation to her tribal place? When she had promised her Dad to not meet anyone of her community after marriage, so that no one gets to know that?"
The late night conversation was slowly taking a shape. Adrian no more looked confused, his erect posture, and the glaze in his eyes and face, confirmed he has found a way. Finally.
"I remember... Umm... You might be correct. That notebook.... Umm... An old diary.. An old, very old diary, it was of Mathews. She read the diary, looked a bit anxious. She said she would return that, but did not. The next day, the plan. I don't know... Umm... That diary?"
"You remember where that diary is? Anything? Any fact? You read that anytime?"
Dozens of self-confidence shots injected into his body. He was now confident. He was worthy of living in his motherland.
"Yes! Yes! She hardly carried anything that day, so that no one gets to know who she was. I am convinced that not even a particle gets misplaced in her room after she is gone. The cupboard keys. The cupboard keys are with me. Never tried to open to respect her privacy."
    A moment's silence.
    "But would do that now".

    "Light the bonfire."
The vast Amazon reverberated with the wails of the Mathews'. Florida had pledged not to shed a single worthless tear, but deep within she was questioning her existence. Oliver sat with his body inclined to a pillar, far from the relatives, with his mother.
"Did they agree with us Mom?"
"I had explained the entire procedure to the relatives when you were out. They understood. They agreed. With a heavy heart, perhaps."
"We should start now. The Sun is about to set."
Florida and Oliver walked towards the bonfire, where all the relatives were mourning near the body.

'Three days. Three days for all the relatives to come. Three is a gifted number for the Teziaahs. Our Mythology says, the universe is regulated by three kings, three ministers, and three warriors.'
'The body shall begin to decompose by then, by the heat and humidity by our forest. Might even bloat or discolour. Perfect time to begin our ritual.'

Florida embraced the body tightly, with all her might, as if would never the let the procedure to be performed. The neighbours gathered near the entrance. The monkey is set free now, let's stand to have a glimpse!
Oliver shut the doors and windows, not letting a single sinner's reflection into the room.

'The ritual shall begin in a closed room, far from the effect of external influence. The soul shall not be allowed to escape, at any cost, remember this.'

Oliver handed over the daggers to Florida. Florida penetrated thoroughly the edged structures into the body, removing the visceral organs. The daggers must have cried twice before entering the body, thoughtful of how Florida would erase these memories from her forebrain. The dark brown ground of the cottage, turned Vermilion and red, as if Earth was changing colours as chameleon, every moment that very fateful day.

'One dagger of my son, and one of my wife, shall tear my body open; the blood shall be flowing as springs, and that's the time when you all shall convert into demons.'

Florida ran the weapons swiftly on the body, cutting it into innumerable pieces, with eyes closed tightly, and pitch high enough for the Gods to hear, and question their holiness.
The boy stood their numb, hands frozen and was competing hard with his soul and mind to accept what he was witnessing. The mind shall say a no, but the heart needs him. Till the last breath.
Tokens of blood-dripping flesh was distributed amongst all. The circulating fluid of the body, was now in the bodies of all the members. The heart and the brain was in Oliver's plate, and he had to graze upon them.

//O Soul! Rest yourself in us forever! Shall never commit a crime, and if yes, shall willingly follow as you say! //

'The closest kin, my wife Florida, shall not consume any flesh. Husband and wife share the same body. She shall immolate her body, her soul would forbid the Gods to take my soul away.'

"I remember Lucia asked for vacation all of a sudden. Even though she was not that traveling types. Sudden plan for Amazon from Singapore? That haunts me somewhere in my mind", Alex said.
"Those scenes are still green. 'Run away Andy! They will kill you!'. I wish I could meet her again. I wish I could know what she was hiding."
Adrian never forgot Lucia, even for a moment. He felt indebted as she had saved his life from the Teziaahs. He closed his dark, brown eyes, and wanted to travel backwards in the memory lane, to be lost somewhere, somewhere he was with someone he loved the most.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oliver Mathews was devastated when he reached the execution spot. He was in an ocean of blood, the blood capable to wash away the vast Amazon Forest, the blood ignited within the boy a galaxy of emotions; hatred, revenge and grief.
Lying there was his father's beheaded torso, still. He wanted to hug his Dad for the last time, wished him to rise once again and teach him how to live. But he knew it was just a notion, everything was over.
He walked towards the torso and fell on his knees.

'Only Oliver will be allowed to go near me after execution. The family and relatives shall wait, and would not help him in any way.'

"Another strategy to make me courageous, perhaps".

The twenty year old boy was not strong enough, neither to control his tears, nor to carry his father on his shoulders, all alone.
"Never thought I would be holding your hands this way, Dad."
Oliver clasped his father's hand, dragged him all the way towards his cottage. The mud of the streets kissed the body, and the blood splashed into the homes, purifying them of the sin. The clouds cried out of dejection, their tears washing away that of Oliver's; the thunder echoing all around, camouflaging the scream of pain in his heart.
As he reached, he heard the footsteps of his mother approaching.
"I would not shed a single tear. Worthless tears. Your Dad is always within us. Always. After the procedure."
    "When you we start Mom?"
"Three days. Wait until all our relatives arrive. This is the primary necessity."

It was a death song that the tom-toms sung that morning. The first ray of the Sun did not bring ambitions for the Mathews family that day, it brought ominous thoughts, hatred towards their community, and revenge of their member's death.
Johann Mathews stood there, in the centre of the village, ready to get executed by his tribe.
"Remember my last wish people? I shall always remain alive amongst all of you! I have no any fear to get beheaded, I have the joy of living forever!"
"Beware of what you wish for, Johann. This can never be accomplished!", said one from the crowd.
"You wish to live? You gotta die, you fool!", said another.
Johann walked towards the weapons with a grin.
Eyes full of pride, contradicting to Oliver's eyes, eyes full of fear; he shifted his sight towards his son. He smiled at his family, and waved.
The males of the tribe shove him into the crowd. Johann fell on the ground. As he tried to propel himself up, people thwack him again to the ground with their bamboo shoes, making him bleed profusely.
Dragged him towards the execution spot, and made him sit on his knees. And beheaded him.
As blood dripped from the torso, the crowd cheered with joy as they no more had left any trace of betrayer. Bet their drums hard, danced with hands in hands, hugged each other. Kicked the torso once again, and left for their homes.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You want to visit your tribe? In deep Amazon forest? That's brave!"
The sudden vacation plan surprised Adrian.
"Yes. I have never seen my community even I belong to them. I won't tell them my real identity. Won't that be good?"
"It is great, but am afraid, will that be right?"
"Don't worry. Everything is gonna be alright."

"Perhaps the only way I can find the entire truth, or perhaps any solution", Lucia thought.

    "So? what's your final decision?"
Adrian sat on the chair numb, clueless of what to do next. The deal with which Mathews wanted to end the matter with, was no doubt a heinous crime, even though millions of lives would be cherished thereafter. But at the cost of those innocent people? No!
"Even though there's nothing left to think upon, I still demand some time."
"Think twice before, Adrian. The more the deal gets delayed...."
"I know. The stocks are over now. I need to hurry."
"You are wise. I hope the next time we meet, you have gotten your hands red."
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex stood stupefied on hearing the deal. He really had given the worst suggestion, perhaps.
"What now? Killing lives for lives?"
Adrian sat on his chair with head on the headrest of his chair, eyes closed, his typical posture, when he wants to ponder deeply.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"This diary looks too old! Where did you get this from?", Adrian asked Lucia, sitting on the sofa and absolutely doing nothing while she was unpacking her suitcase.
"Dad unknowingly dropped this in the hall," she said as she inspected the diary front and back, "our maid asked me to return this back to him. "
    "That's interesting!"
"I have never seen this diary in Dad's closet. What makes him keep this always near him?"
Lucia opened the diary. As she turned the pages, her heart started beating faster, faster than the wind in their forest; every word she read made her feel the Teziaah forest; the atrocious procedure, and everything. She read everything. Each word. She could feel her existence.
She sat there shocked, clueless of what to do next. Her community, her grandfather, her Dad, all was a myth now. She was raised by Oliver Mathews, the great CEO of Petronaz Brazil, never failed to conceal the truth of her birth, was this a blessing? Or that she committed, was crime?
"Should I tell Adrian? I don't know the consequences of the error I have done, and I don't even know what to do next", she thought with a blank mind, palms and feet ice cold, and face white as of a ghost.
" What's in it?", asked Adrian as he arranged the new showpieces in the shelf.
"Nothing. Just business policies and some accounts. That's all."
"Then it might have some confidentiality. You should return that to your Dad."
    "Yeah. Very confidential."

"This would assuage the family's grief, the soul of the deceased would be kept in living bodies of our relatives. The soul would not wander in the forest alone. It's an act of compassion, affinal love and grief.", Johann said as he was getting ready for his execution.
"Are you sure this would work darling?", said Florida, Johann's wife.
    "Until you break it's rules."
The song of the nocturnal crickets and grasshoppers cut across the dead silence of the Amazon rainforests. The hustling of the leaves of the trees duelling with the state of Johann's mind, peace.
"What are the rules Dad? I promise I would always abide by them."
"Oliver dear, it would not be wrong to say that major rules are for you."
Young Oliver could do anything to preserve his father's soul within themselves.
"Florida, you should never marry again. The first generation of the followers of this procedure shall never marry, that implies Oliver would never marry, nor would ever mate to have kids. The sanctity of the soul is utmost important for the soul to reside in."
"For our successors, you can adopt kids, raise them and never let them know, neither about the truth of their birth, nor about this procedure."
"Ensure that your kids marry people belonging to the Teziaah Community only. Oliver my dear, you may forget your traditions in the limelight of the big cities, but never forget these rules my boy, if you wish to keep me in you."

Oliver jotted down the rules in his mini notebook which his father had gifted him years before, and hid it in his pocket of lime green shirt.
"But Dad? What would happen if we forget the rules?"
"You will devastated my son! The child who breaks the rules shall be killed somehow by the community itself, by knowledge or without knowledge. It will be a matter of fate, it will seem so, but everything will be planned, or say so, be a punishment, for breaking the rule. My soul in you shall lose its way and might affect you. You may turn into an evil soul my boy!"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dad! I really wish to marry Adrian. Can't it be possible that he converts into a Teziaah?"
    "No."
"Sir? Don't your girl's tears and happiness matter to you? I promise you that I shall keep her happy. You have been trusting me for a long time, then why turning a blind-eye now?"
"It was Andy who had asked to inform you. And I did it."
Lucia clasped Adrian's hands. She never wanted to let him go, neither from her heart, nor from his words.

    'As you held me tightly,
    It was for ever.
    Promise me a thing,
You shall never let me go.
I may turn to be an evil,
And at times I may be marooned.
I want you to embrace me always,
    And I shall live forever!'

Adrian's eyes bulged out of his oval face in dismay. Drops of sweat dripped off his chin, his wheatish complexion turned gray as if he saw a ghost in Mathews. His fingers clutched tightly the armrest, if he let them go, he might lose control on them.
    "Afraid, my dear Adrian?"
Mathews took baby steps towards him to have a better focus of his jittery face.
"Stay away! Don't try to come near me! Stay out!"
Adrian flung his legs in haste upon him to ensure he does not touch him.
"Don't want to avenge your wife's death?"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dad won't allow us to marry. What if we get married by your tradition and inform him later? At least I wouldn't be losing you."
"Don't you think this is wrong?"
Adrian gulped the entire wine in one go as he completed the last page of his diary for the year.
"You have a unique way. You paste rose petals after your every poem. Why?", Lucia said as she touched the soothing dark red rose petals pasted with gum on the diary pages.
" I don't know. Rose petals make me feel connected with nature. Foliage has been my weakness always somehow."
Lucia turned to the last page of the diary.

'As I touch your cold white skin,
I curse myself from deep within.
    Is it you?
    Or is it me?
Whom should I blame for now?
I don't know what is at stake,
    My culture or values?
If they meet, I gonna ask them someday,
For sure will they come for my tears,
    If I gonna lose you?'

Lucia wiped a teardrop from her eyes. She had got her answer. She knew Adrian loved her a lot more than she did. He might refrain from the idea of not informing her father, but deep inside he just wants her to be his as soon as possible.
    "What do you want Andy?"
"Inform your Dad. I can't betray my boss dear. He has trusted me. He has trusted you. We can't do this. Even we can't betray the community your ancestors belonged to, even though you don't talk to them everyday."
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mathews was wild with anger and exasperation.
"ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME IS LUCY'S DEATH AND THE MURDERERS. YOU KILLED HER. YOU AGREED TO HER AND KILLED HER. THOSE TEZIAAHS KILLED HER. THOSE TEZIAAHS KILLED MY DAD AND KILLED HER."
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    40 Years Ago.

"Johann Mathews, husband of Florida Mathews and father of Oliver Mathews, is cursed to withstand the pain of hell; will be punished with our arms and weapons for not abiding by the rules of our community; his dead body shall not be dumped and shall feed the vultures and wolves. He disrespected our ancestral tribal rules and values and planned to flee to companies that destroy our homes and foliage, and thus is ordered to be killed by our weapons with the first ray of sun, and first beat of our tom-toms."
Johann gave a smile. He knew such situation would arise, sooner or after.
"You desire to say your last wish Johann? We Teziaahs promise to respect that and allow."
"I wish my body would neither decay nor be a feeding ground. I wish to remain amongst my relatives and members even if I die. I wish my son, Oliver Mathews, join the Petronaz Company, and expand it as large as dynasties could expand. I wish to live long within the foliage, as well as within the company."
The crowd was left in awe. The way Johann delivered his last speech, it felt as if he never was, or perhaps will never be afraid to die. The atypical lustre in his eyes and a valour smile in his eyes said it all. He was never gonna die.

"Sir. It's Mr. Adrian from Singapore branch."
    It was unexpected.
    "Let him in."
Mathews had heard those angry steps a long time ago.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    "You can't marry Lucy."
"Dad? Don't you know Adrian? He's such a good man Dad!"
    "He's good".
    Mathews left the room silently.
"Does your father think I am having an affair with some other girl?", Adrian said with a quirky smile.
" And what makes you think that?"
"Just a guess. He doesn't seem happy with me."
"Love doesn't feed you. Money does Mr. Adrian." Mathews' abrupt entry was surprising.
"Why won't you consider me for your girl sir? You have known me for years now. You know my personality quite well, moreover, I am none less than a friend to you."
    "YOU KNOW NOTHING."
"We are Teziaahs.", Lucia spluttered out.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Adrian. You are having rage in your eyes. Is it personal or professional?"
"Lucy had planned a vacation to your native place. I didn't know anything Dad! I did not even know you are Teziaahs until Lucy freaked out that day in fear of losing me!"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
    "Teziaahs? Do they exist now?"
"Yes. In some parts of Amazon. We respect our ancestors, we should ensure a Teziaah man marries a Teziaah woman."
"Lucy? Why did you do this? Do I deserve this? And most importantly does my love deserve this fate?"
"Dad please make it happen. Please. We won't never let any of our relative know this. Please Dad!"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Do you write your diary now? "
"How does that make sense now?"
    "Say".
" Yes. But no flowers now."
    "Why?"
    "Reminds me of Lucy."
"I would restore your deal. Can you give what I ask for?"
    "At any cost".
