he played me like a drum
    i followed my own beat
    until it was gone

    tears flooded her eyes.
she tried to blink them away
    more than once, twice,
    a couple of times.

    the pearl beaded necklace
    trickled down her chest
she’d give you the key to her heart
but first, she’d have to find the rest
the pieces have blown in the wind
and have fallen so far apart
that she’s afraid to take that leap
and she’s afraid to even start

    those with hearts
    outlined in pure gold
    never truly get wrinkled
    they’ll never grow old

    her fear of being forgotten
    was becoming a reality
    she withered away into
    nothing left but a petal
    hardly anyone could see

    the marigolds bobbed their heads.
their fire everlasting, and although a fire can be extinguished, the impact that the blaze has on you cannot.

    a big chocolate cake
    one that took
    so long to make
    i made it
    and it’s just for you
    i stayed up all night
    wondering
do i put just one egg,
    or two?

    wandering through the garden
i climb trees to the very top
oh, what a view of the city
i’m only wishing time would stop
the deep waters before the city
like a mote protecting its castle
i’d run to it on foot
oh, how i love to travel
    -
    from the 45th floor
    he starts to unravel
    his heart is heavy
    but it’s almost laughable
he feels his luck has run low
    many had told him so
when he glanced out the window
    towards the waters below
    he sees a bright light
    that gives him hope

    i sat with mama
    along the shore.
    we found flower petals,
    sea shells,
    and many more.
    i saw the stars
    fall from a freckled
    nights sky.
    across the waters
    my hopes and dreams
    soar and fly.

    she shrugged her shoulders
    the noise was near
she couldn’t put her finger on
    what she would hear
    tapping.. tapping.. tapping..
is all a wall could mutter
    a shadow outside the window
    tapped..
    and all she could do
    was sit back and stutter
