Raindrops race down crying glass
My sinking heart beats faster still
I wipe away reflective tears
That ebb and flow onto the sill
I guess at seeds that have been sown
That thrive in rain or hail or shine
Weeds that can't be reasoned with
Or topped or rooted out in time
I pretend and pray for sun
Waiting for the storm to pass
Battered petals wilt and wane
And shatter on the hardened grass
I stare out through the foggy pane
And wonder if I am to blame
